About the Anniversary

Major anniversaries of D Day and operations in Normandy are planned for June 2014, the 70th Anniversary of the D Day landings which took place on 6th June 1944.

The History

On 6th June 1944 British, Canadian, French and American troops landed on five beaches, with airborne forces dropping on their flanks. More than 10,000 Allied troops became casualties but Hitler’s Atlantic Wall was breached.

D Day +70 - Information Site

Although 2014 is some five years away, this website is the only one on the Web preparing for the 70th Anniversary of D Day and the Battle of Normandy, which will take place in June 2014.

The site is by military historian Paul Reed, the son of a WW2 veteran, WW2 author and regular contributor to BBC History programmes like Timewatch and Meet The Ancestors.

As the 70th Anniversary approaches the site will expand with further information.

The 65th Anniversary was in June 2009; for some photos of the event visit the Battlefields of WW2 site.

More news items will be placed here as and when available.
